A NEW Doctor Who exhibition will open in Edinburgh this year, revealing the scientific secrets behind the Time Lord.

The National Museum of Scotland will host the Doctor Who Worlds of Wonder exhibition in December, letting fans explore eight zones, covering a multitude of scientific topics from the hit TV show.

Head of exhibitions and design at the museum Alison Cromarty said staff were “tremendously excited to be bringing this exhibition to Scotland”.

She said: “From the wonder of the science fiction of the TV show, to our present-day understanding of the big scientific topics it touches on, there is something for everyone.”

The exhibition first opened in Liverpool’s World Museum, where it will run until October 30, but from December 10 until May 1 2023, it will reside in Edinburgh.

The TV show, since its conception in November 1963, has long since had strong Scottish connections.

Alongside two memorable companions, three Scots have taken on the role of the mysterious Time Lord: Sylvester McCoy, David Tennant (above) and Peter Capaldi. Rwandan Scot Ncuti Gatwa is set to join them as the fourth when he takes on the role of the Fourteenth Doctor at the end of 2023.

As part of the exhibition, people will be able to take part in a range of immersive experiences and go on a journey through cosmic curiosities, a Tardis tech room, and the science behind time travel.

And if you fancy getting up close to a Dalek, some of the show’s stranger creations can be seen in the monster vault, allowing visitors to see some of the oddest and scariest monsters that have graced our screens over the years.
