Residents have been warned not to touch or pick up dead or sick birds after a flu variant was detected in Nottinghamshire. It comes as the avian flu was discovered in wild birds at Vicar Water Country Park, Clipstone and near Car Dyke in Southwell.
It is important to note, however, that Avian Influenza is in no way connected to the Covid-19 pandemic, which is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus and is not carried in poultry. Wild birds migrating to the UK from mainland Europe during the winter months can carry the disease and this can lead to cases in poultry and other captive birds.
It is vital to not allow wild birds to mix with chickens, ducks, geese or other birds at this time, reports warn. Nottinghamshire County Council’s Trading Standards team is issuing advice and working with Newark and Sherwood District Council and other partner agencies to reduce the risk of the spread of the disease.
