Here’s our Tottenham Vs Manchester United preview, prediction, team news and confirmed lineups ahead of Thursday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final in North London.
Tottenham Vs Manchester United Preview
Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou was under increasing pressure before Sunday’s 5-0 thrashing of Southampton. A run of one win in eight games ended emphatically as Tottenham put the Saints to the sword.
It was 4-0 after 25 minutes and they had their fifth before the break. But while their ruthless display gave Postecoglou some breathing space, their recent form remains terrible.
This was Spurs’ first win since beating Manchester City 4-0 in November and only their third win in ten across all competitions.
They are ninth in the Europa League – outside of the top eight on goal difference. In the Premier League it’s goal difference that has them sneaking into the top half above 11th-placed Brentford.
Thursday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final sees Tottenham host Manchester United. Spurs are unbeaten in four against United, (W2 D2), but lost the previous four in a row prior to that.
For United, it’s another chance to take a step forward under Ruben Amorim. The former Sporting CP boss has forever endeared himself to Red Devils fans after his side snatched a dramatic Manchester derby victory against City at the weekend.
Trailing 1-0 with minutes to go, Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty after Amad Diallo was brought down in the box.
Diallo then won it at the death for United. The young winger raced onto a long ball forward, plucked it out of the air and lifted it over Ederson in goal before tucking it into the empty net from a tight angle.
United haven’t looked convincing under Amorim yet – aside from their 4-0 hammering of strugglers Everton. But there are certainly signs of improvement week-to-week.
The new manager has stated publicly that there will be pain before joy as he rebuilds the United squad, but Thursday’s fixture is a great chance to make another statement against strong opposition.
Tottenham Vs Manchester United Team News
Spurs are still without Rodrigo Bentancur. The Uruguayan midfielder will serve the sixth of his seven-game suspension on Thursday.
Hamstring issues keep out all of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Richarlison, Ben Davies, Wilson Odobert.
Guglielmo Vicario (ankle) and Mikey Moore (illness) are both out, with Destiny Udogie (thigh) a doubt.
Yves Bissouma is back from his ban, while Brennan Johnson may slot back in out wide.
For United, Mason Mount limped off early at the Etihad on Sunday. He is a major doubt, as is Noussair Mazraoui (knock).
Luke Shaw is injured once again and remains sidelined for the foreseeable. Jonny Evans is also unlikely to be fit having missed United’s last six games.
Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho were both left out completely against City, and Ruben Amorim has a decision to make regarding their selection.
Both managers are likely to rotate their squads given the frequency of upcoming fixtures this month.
Tottenham Vs Manchester United Confirmed Lineups

Tottenham Vs Manchester United Prediction
Spurs got the better of United in their last meeting, but the Red Devils are a different prospect under Ruben Amorim.
While Tottenham did look excellent at the weekend, Southampton’s dreadful form means it’s hard to gain any insight from that result.
Both teams are capable of excellence, but are far from reaching their best. We can see this being an entertaining fixture, which may need penalties to settle.
Prediction: Tottenham 2-2 Manchester United (United to win on penalties)
