Tottenham vs Liverpool F.C. Stats Points To A Goal-Fest

It will be Tottenham vs Liverpool F.C. in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, so ahead of the game we have taken a look at some key stats between the two sides.

Tottenham vs Liverpool F.C. Stats Ahead Of Sunday’s 2pm Premier League Clash

Liverpool had a nine-point lead at the beginning of December, but by the time they play Tottenham they could be second in the standings.

Draws with Newcastle and Fulham, and their clash with Everton being postponed due to Storm Darragh has allowed Chelsea to close the gap to two points.

Chelsea could go top with a victory over Everton, before Liverpool’s tough test against Tottenham on Sunday.

Tottenham beat Liverpool in this fixture last season but have struggled for form this campaign, sitting just inside the top-half of the table in 10th.

However, only Chelsea (37) have scored more goals this season than Tottenham (36) meaning Sunday’s fixture could be a goal-fest.

Liverpool Favourites To Claim Big Away Victory

The current Premier League leaders are expected to return to winning ways on Sunday according to the best football betting sites in the UK.

At the time of writing with odds subject to change, Liverpoo are 3/4 favourites to win, with a Tottenham win at 3/4 and a draw at 3/1.

Liverpool have failed to win two of their last three trips to Tottenham (one win, one draw and one loss). And given their recent defensive slips, Sunday could be a tough test against a high-scoring Spurs side.

VAR’s Most Famous Blunder Last Season

VAR came under serious scrutiny after this fixture last season, following a mistake which led to Liverpool losing the most controversial game of the entire campaign.

The first talking point came when Curtis Jones was shown a straight red for a challenge on Yves Bissouma after he went over the ball.

But then Liverpool were denied a goal for offside – despite replays showing goalscorer Luis Diaz was actually onside. There was a communication error involving the team at Stockley Park and the on-field officials in an error which was much scrutinised over the weeks to follow.

Despite this Liverpool showed spirit as Cody Gakpo pulled them level after a James Maddison opener.

Diogo Jota though received an unfortunate second yellow card despite Destiny Udogie appearing to trip over his own foot before there was late heartbreak for the Reds as Joel Matip put the ball in the back of his own net.

It was a damaging day for Liverpool in the title race, one they will be hoping to avoid a repeat of on Sunday.

Liverpool Leaking More Goals

Liverpool have been shipping in more goals as of late with 10 in their last seven games – compared to just three in their opening eight matches.

Part of that could be down to the absence of Ibrahima Konate who was a rock at the heart of defence alongside Virgil van Dijk in the opening months.

The Reds have shipped five goals alone in their last two league games in draws against Newcastle and Fulham.

Tottenham meanwhile have been excellent in front of goal but shaky at the back – best shown in their 4-3 loss to Chelsea earlier this month.

Sunday’s clash has all the makings to be an entertaining one with chances galore at both ends of the pitch.
