Former Tottenham Hotspur star Darren Bent has urged the north London side to make a move for Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku should Harry Kane depart the club. The England captain has long been linked with a move away from Spurs, none more so last summer, with Manchester City very publicly pursuing his services.
Kane eventually ended up staying in north London, although it remains to be seen whether that decision remains certain in the upcoming summer window. His contract expires in the summer of 2024.
Whilst Bent has questioned whether the striker would aim to exit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the immediate future, he has suggested that Lukaku would be an excellent successor.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “As long as Antonio Conte ’s there, I don’t think Harry Kane would go anywhere. But if worse came to worse and Harry Kane did leave, and go elsewhere, if they can get Lukaku, you’ve seen what Conte can get out of Romelu Lukaku.
“Even down to his nutrition, because that was the best I’ve ever seen him look, last season and at the start of this season. If there was an opportunity and Kane leaves and Conte can get Lukaku, I’d go out all day to get it, all day.
“I think as someone who has plenty of Premier League experience, there’d be no one better to replace Harry Kane. I know they’re completely different in terms of players, Harry Kane dropping in and [is] technically a better footballer, but Lukaku would be an adequate replacement, certainly with what he did with Conte already. So, I would.”
Lukaku is currently facing an uncertain future with Chelsea despite only arriving back at the club for a record fee last summer. The 28-year-old has only scored 12 goals in all competitions since his move - just five of those coming in Premier League action.
It has been suggested that he already has admirers in his services. Mauricio Pochettino’s Paris Saint-Germain have already been linked with a big-money switch for Lukaku so it remains to be seen whether Spurs would follow Bent’s instructions should Kane leave for pastures new.
