Tottenham transfer news: Roma make Tammy Abraham intentions clear amid interest

Roma have zero intention of selling Tammy Abraham with Harry Kane ’s future at Tottenham Hotspur unclear. Despite hopes that he will remain at the club should Antonio Conte remain in charge., another trophyless campaign for the England international in north London could force his hand.

Nonetheless, Spurs have been considering their options in preparation for the worst case scenario, with recent reports suggesting that they are interested in bringing former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham back to the Premier League.

But his current club Roma, who are managed by former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho, are reluctant to sell the 24-year-old after just one season at the club, in which he has already netted 23 times in all competitions this campaign following his £34 million move from the Blues.

On Monday, The Athletic reported that agent Jorge Mendes had discussed a potential move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with the England international at the end of the season, with the intention of him becoming Kane’s successor should he finally depart his boyhood club this summer.

Kane continues to be linked with a move away from north London, with Manchester United heavily rumoured to be a potential destination, while he was the subject of multiple bids from Manchester City last summer, only for Daniel Levy to refuse any sale.

But with it looking ever more likely that the 28-year-old will bring a close to his time at the Lilywhites in the near future, the opportunity of becoming Tottenham’s lead striker for next season has arisen, with Abraham a potential candidate to take on that role.

Could Spurs sign Tammy Abraham if Harry Kane leaves? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

And it comes as no surprise, following a remarkable maiden campaign in Italy which has seen Abraham score 15 times in 29 Serie A appearances this season, coupled with a further seven in nine European outings for the Rome outfit.

Following the speculation, however, it has been claimed in Italy that Mourinho’s side have no intention of selling their star striker after just one season at the club, despite the potentially huge transfer fee they could receive in return.

According to Italian daily Tuttosport, via Inside Futbol , Roma have no interest in cashing on a player they signed less than a year ago, and nor does former Spurs boss Mourinho, who has managed to build a team around the 24-year-old.

However, Chelsea have a buy-back clause inserted in Abraham’s contract, which can be activated after he has spent two seasons at the club, meaning that if Spurs fail to sign him this summer, their chances will look even slimmer next year.

And if Abraham keeps up his rich vein of goalscoring form for another year, then the Blues could very much be keen on the idea of re-signing their former player, which they would be well within their rights to do so.

Another obstacle to overcome for Spurs is that the Roma striker is happy at the Stadio Olimpico and has no overwhelming intention to leave after just one season at the club, so this one could take something special if a transfer is to happen.
