Tottenham transfer news: Leandro Trossard alternatives amid Antonio Conte regret

Your Tottenham morning transfer round-up on Friday, January 20.

Trossard alternatives eyed

Arsenal have moved quickly to secure a £21m deal for Tottenham transfer target Leandro Trossard, football.london understands. Spurs had been interested in the Brighton forward but look to have missed out to their fierce local rivals.

Trossard could have been the answer to Antonio Conte's need for a new attacker this window with a flexible forward on their shortlist. Now that the Belgian is set to move to the Emirates Stadium, Spurs could instead turn to Michael Olise.

The Crystal Palace winger scored a brilliant free-kick against Manchester United on Wednesday and is one of the league's best young creators.

Conte regret

After losing 2-0 to local rivals Arsenal Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Trust have released a statement over wanting answers on the long-term direction of the club, including a pressing point on transfer planning.

"Two weeks ago we asked the board of THFC to outline its strategy and vision," the statement reads. "Today (Tuesday, January 17) Antonio Conte asked for the same thing. It is clear to everyone that, for there to be a chance of success at this club, the vision and strategy of the board and manager must align."

With his deal expiring at the end of the season, Conte has offered a reply to those doubting him, saying: "Usually when I left the club they regret me [leaving] a lot because they knew the way that I work and the commitment I put into the club, what I give for the club. Yes. I think this, but in this aspect I am really happy for the way that I am."

Pedro Porro clause

Tottenham won't be able to sign Pedro Porro for less than his £39million release clause, Sporting manager Ruben Amorim has reiterated.

Spurs are in the market for a new wing-back and the 23-year-old is top of their list having starred for his side this year and since moving to Portugal following Manchester City's willingness to loan him out and then lose him over the summer.

Amorim is confident of retaining his player this month though, saying: "I can't guarantee anything. It doesn't seem to me that he will leave. To leave at this moment, he has to leave due to the clause. That is the knowledge I have."
