Former Tottenham Hotspur winger David Ginola likened Harry Kane to Diego Maradona after his sparkling performance in the weekend’s victory against Newcastle United. Antonio Conte’s men earned an emphatic victory despite falling behind, running out 5-1 victors and injecting fresh optimism into their fight for Champions League football.
Whilst Kane himself did not manage to get on the scoresheet, he was still key to the win. The 28-year-old was on hand to find Matt Doherty as Spurs edged ahead just after the break, whilst his ability to drop deep and receive the ball was also widely praised.
After Spurs had managed to stage their turnaround, they continued their relentless pursuit of goals as the likes of Emerson Royal, Son Heung-Min and Steven Bergwijn all managed to find the net. It was Kane who earned the praise from Ginola after the game.

Speaking with Sky Sports, he said: “The new playmaker at Spurs is Harry Kane. I told you, Harry Kane, the playmaker, no10. He’s like Maradona now!
“Playing in the middle of the park, long balls, small balls, scoring, assisting. Wow. It’s a new Harry Kane.”
The England captain’s contribution against Newcastle takes his overall season record to 22 goals and seven assists in all competitions. Meanwhile, he has also had a direct hand in 11 goals in his last eight Premier League appearances.
Current boss Conte is certainly delighted with his current form but was slightly disappointed not to see him score against the Magpies.
Talking in his post-match press conference, the Italian said: "When the game finished I went into the pitch to thank my players and I said to Harry, 'I am only disappointed for one thing, that you didn't score because you played a massive game'.
"It is very difficult to describe this player. I am happy for him because we are talking about a world class striker. He deserves the best because he is a great worker, a hard worker, this is not normal."
Tottenham will certainly hope that form continues over the final couple of months of the season as they try and seal a place back in the Champions League. Spurs moved up to fourth in the table courtesy of their emphatic victory against Newcastle but could relinquish the position with direct rivals Arsenal set to take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday evening.
