Tottenham supporters warned 'under no circumstances' to go to one area in Frankfurt

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been warned 'under no circumstances' to travel into the Sachsenhausen district of Frankfurt around the club's Champions League game in Germany.

Spurs take on Eintracht Frankfurt on Tuesday evening in the European competition and many of the club's fans have been arriving in the German city since Sunday, with 2,500 in all expected to make the trip. However, after previous incidents in the district on the south side of the River Main, opposite to the side containing the central tourist areas of the city, Tottenham have warned their travelling fans against heading to Sachsenhausen and also warned against wearing club colours in the city.

"Supporters are strongly advised not to wear anything that will identify them as Tottenham Hotspur supporters while in Frankfurt," said Spurs in their advice on their website. "For security reasons, under no circumstances should supporters visit the Sachsenhausen district of Frankfurt. The district is across the Main river from central Frankfurt."

Problems flared up earlier this year when West Ham fans came to the city for their Europa League semi-final second leg tie. More than 30 people were arrested after clashes between fans of the two clubs around the city centre, while the previous day two West Ham fans were attacked in the Sachsenhausen area and taken to hospital after being left unconscious. Six men identified as Frankfurt fans were later arrested, while Eintracht supporters also attacked West Ham fans at a pub in the city.

Spurs have recommended that their fans base themselves on Monday in the city's historic Romerberg area, which has a large square with bars and restaurants and is a popular tourist area. However, on Tuesday, a demonstration is planned in the square on matchday.

The Tottenham fans have been advised to go to O’Reilly’s Irish Pub, which can hold a capacity of 1,000 people, opposite Frankfurt's central station.
