Tottenham sign Ashley Phillips for £3m in fourth deal of the summer

Tottenham have announced the signing of Ashley Phillips from Blackburn.

The 18-year-old defender joins for £3million after breaking into the Championship club’s first-team squad last season.

Standard Sport reported on Phillips becoming a serious target for Spurs earlier in the summer.

Ange Postecoglou has been keen to bolster his defence this summer but Phillips’ arrival is not thought to be instead of their quest for a new senior player.

Wolfsburg centre-back Micky van de Ven is set to follow next with a medical planned next week as part of a £43m deal. Meanwhile, Tottenham have cooled their interest in Edmond Tapsoba and continue to consider Bayern Munich’s take-it-or-leave-it offer for star striker Harry Kane.

Phillips has signed a long-term contract running to 2028.

Already this transfer window, Spurs have signed Manor Solomon, Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison while permanent deals have been completed for loanees Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro.
