Tottenham player ratings vs Marseille: Lenglet, Kane, Bentancur and Hojbjerg shine in vital win

Hugo Lloris

He made a low save to deny Sanchez 20 minutes in before diving superbly to push away Veretout's powerful half-volley. Couldn't do much about Mbemba's powerful header. He handled everything that came his way well and wasn't tested much in the second. 8

Eric Dier

He had a strange moment on 15 minutes as he stopped the ball from going off for a Marseille throw by booting it high over his head and towards his own penalty box. Almost caused a real problem for his fellow defenders. He improved in the second half and played his part in keeping Marseille from scoring a second. 6

Clement Lenglet

Beaten to an early header wide from Sanchez and the striker also breezed past him to test Lloris 20 minutes in. However, he rose to head home Perisic's deep free-kick to put Spurs back on level terms. Made some big interceptions at the back and kept steaming up the pitch in the second half. Big game from the Frenchman. 9

Ben Davies

Sent a couple of sloppy passes to Marseille in his own half towards the end of the first period. Improved in the second half with the team, but like Dier, he could have proved costly in the first half. 6

Ivan Perisic

He was ineffective in the first half but grabbed an assist early in the second with his fine curling ball for Lenglet to head home. He got much better as the game wore on and used all of his experience and made a huge block in front of the Spurs goal at one point. 8

Rodrigo Bentancur

In great form and drove Spurs on once again with his forays up the pitch and his composure with the ball. Looked to be feeling his hamstring before coming off in the final 10 minutes, which will be a concern. 8

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Struggled at times in the first half to keep Marseille at bay, but he improved hugely with the team after the break and crashed a shot against the crossbar in the 80th minute. He was tireless and became the match-winner with a lung-busting run and terrific strike with the final kick of the game, smashing an effort in off the left-hand post. 9

Ryan Sessegnon

Shaky on the right in the first half before being switched to the left before the break. Shepherded out the ball that ended up being given as a corner despite the linesman flagging for a goal kick, and Marseille duly scored from it. Taken off at half-time after a difficult first half. 4

Lucas Moura

An onlooker in the first half other than losing the ball a few times. He became more dangerous in the second half, albeit without that final ball or touch other than one teed up ball to Hojbjerg to hit the crossbar. 6

Harry Kane

Had Spurs' first shot at goal after 52 minutes - at the end of seven minutes of added time in the first half - with an effort that Lopez tipped over. Came close a couple of times in the second period before putting the ball in the net only to be flagged offside. In the second half, he was superb, holding up the ball and taking men on to relieve pressure on Spurs. He provided the late assist for Hojbjerg to run through and score. 9

Son Heung-min

Lasted 29 minutes before having to come off with a painful looking blow to the face in an aerial challenge. Looked groggy as he was helped off the pitch. Before that, he had struggled along with the rest of the front three to keep the ball when it did eventually come their way. Hopefully, he's alright. 5

Subs

Yves Bissouma

Replaced Son, and after a nervy first half, he impressed in the second half with his strength and use of the ball. 7

Emerson Royal

Came on for the second half, and he used the ball well when he had it and gave Spurs more balance. 7

Oliver Skipp

Replaced Bentancur in the final 10 minutes and put in some important challenges. N/A

Bryan Gil

Gave Spurs some fresh legs for Lucas in added time. N/A
