Tottenham player ratings vs Crystal Palace: Pedro Porro impresses as Cristian Romero returns to form

Tottenham beat Crystal Palace 1-0 to boost their European hopes and earn a first win under acting head coach Ryan Mason.

Harry Kane's superb header on the stroke of half-time settled an often bad-tempered London derby, while Cristian Romero glanced a header off the bar in the first half.

Dan Kilpatrick was at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to rate the Spurs players...

Fraser Forster 7

Saved smartly from Michael Olise and Cheick Doucoure either side of half time.

Emerson Royal 7

Stretched by the excellent Wilfried Zaha but handled him far better than he did on his Spurs' debut, a measure of how much he has improved.

Cristian Romero 8

Glanced Porro's corner off the bar and impressive with and without the ball. Unlocked Palace with a superb pass to create a chance for Son.

Clement Lenglet 8

Made an important intervention to stop Jeffrey Schlupp and was assured in a new-look back line. Forced off after suffering a shoulder injury late on.

Ben Davies 7

Offered little threat going forward but steady in a left-back / left wing-back hybrid role.

Pedro Porro 8

Made the opening goal with a fine cross for Kane, forced a save from Sam Johnstone and his set pieces were a threat. Much better when relieved of defensive duties.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg 7

Tried to drive Spurs forward in the first half and flashed a shot wide after an exchange with Kane.

Oliver Skipp 7

Some of his passing was eye-catching and he covered plenty of ground, snapping into tackles.

Heung-min Son 7

Could not get around Sam Johnstone after beating the offside trap in the second half, his only sight of goal. Excellent at tracking back to help out against Olise and Co.

Richarlison 6

Put himself about in a hard-working display but was well-marshalled by Palace's defensive and offered little in the way of goal threat.

Harry Kane 8

Broke the deadlock with a thumping header after playing a brilliant pass over his shoulder to Porro. Where would Spurs be without him?

Subs

Dejan Kulusevski (Richarlison 79') 6

Limited time to make an impact, with Spurs mainly on the back foot in the last ten minutes

Eric Dier (Lenglet 88') N/A

Arnaut Danjuma (Son 89') N/A
