Tottenham player ratings vs AC Milan: Pape Matar Sarr shines despite Spurs struggles in defeat

Tottenham went down 1-0 to AC Milan in their Champions League last-16 first leg at the San Siro.

The Serie A champions took just six minutes to open up Spurs, Braham Diaz bundling over the line after a Fraser Forster double save.

Spurs had the lion's share of possession but struggled to carve out clear chances and Milan went closest to scoring again, with Charles De Ketelaere and Malick Thiaw missing late headers.

Dan Kilpatrick was at the San Siro to rate the Spurs players...

Fraser Forster 6

Unlucky to concede after making a smart double save before Diaz bundled over the line.

Cristian Romero 4

Meekly beaten in the air by Theo Hernandez for Milan's winner and lucky not to pick up another red card for a wild tackle on Sandro Tonali.

Eric Dier 7

A threat from set pieces but squandered a free header from a late corner. A booking will keep him out of the second leg next month.

Clement Lenglet 6

Did OK defensively but failed to make the most of a couple of promising positions in the final third.

Emerson Royal 7

Tucked in to support the young midfield two and battled well against Hernandez and Rafael Leao.

Oliver Skipp 7

Broke up play and used the ball intelligently as he more than held his own in the San Siro.

Pape Matar Sarr 8

His composure and crisp passes were impressive in a standout display on his Champions League debut

Ivan Perisic 5

Subdued and disappointing, given his experience at this level.

Dejan Kulusevski 5

Impressively marshalled by Malick Thiaw and Hernandez, and struggled to create another of note in an underwhelming evening.

Heung-min Son 4

A couple of threatening free-kicks aside, the South Korean made little impact and was lucky not to be hooked for Danjuma sooner.

Harry Kane 6

Given the rough treatment by Simon Kjaer in an engaging battle. Looked well up for it but short of quality support around him.

Subs

Richarlison (Kulusevski 70') 6

Struggled to make an impressive on the right, his least comfortable position in the front three.

Arnaut Danjuma (Son 80') 6

Little involvement of note in a late cameo.

Ben Davies (Lenglet 80') 5

Wasted a couple of good positions with poor finals balls.
