Tottenham news: Tim Sherwood admits Harry Kane worry amid Rodrigo Bentancur injury update

Your morning Tottenham Hotspur digest on Friday, February 24.

Kane worry

Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has admitted that Harry Kane breaking Jimmy Greaves' record at Spurs could be a worry regarding his future in N17.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Sherwood said: “He’s down to a year left of his contract at the end of the season and he has a big decision to make. All of these players in the league are going to be rich when they finish playing, but when you start playing football it’s a team sport so you want to win.

“He’s won three Golden Boots already. He’s been the top scorer at the World Cup and he’s beaten Jimmy Greaves’ record at Tottenham, which is a little bit of a worry for the Tottenham fans because what else does he have to achieve there now?

Bentancur update

Spurs central midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has undergone successful surgery in Spain after the Uruguayan international ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, football.london understands.

The former Juventus sustained the injury during the second half of the Lilywhites' recent league loss to Leicester City, turning his knee awkwardly following a tackle. Bentancur was then forced to wait until the swelling subsided before he could receive any additional treatment.

Friedel claim

Brad Friedel has admitted that he disagrees with former Spurs teammate Rafael van der Vaart regarding the need for creative prowess in Antonio Conte's squad.

"I understand where Rafa is coming from, he was so talented himself, but you have to take into account who the head coach is and the style of play they want to implement," Friedel told sportingpost.com. "This is where some of the criticism of pundits and fans has come from – sometimes the games aren’t this exciting, beautiful brand of football. But most teams Conte has managed have been unbelievably successful but efficient the way they have played.

"So I see Rafa's point, but I don’t necessarily agree wholeheartedly. Each manager puts their own stamp on how their team plays and I think Conte gets very good results playing his style of football, no matter who he is managing.

"Look at Kulusevski, he’s got bags of skill, as does Son, Lucas and Kane. But I just think it’s the way that they play and how Conte wants them to play. Conte knows what he’s doing and he’s a winner."
