Tottenham news: Spurs target new striker, Cristian Romero left red-faced

Tottenham will attempt to sign Italy striker Andrea Belotti as back-up to Harry Kane, according to latest reports.

Spurs have struggled to find adequate cover for Kane in recent years with Carlos Vinicius, Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente all failing to provide competition for the England captain. And reports are now linking them with Belotti to try and fill the role.

It comes as Cristian Romero has been left red-faced after flying out for international duty with Argentina. And former Spurs ace Christian Eriksen has had a fairytale return to the scene of his horrifying cardiac arrest during Euro 2020.

Here are Mirror Football's latest Tottenham Hotspur headlines.

Eriksen's fairytale return

Christian Eriksen scored a wonder goal on his return to the scene of his horrifying cardiac arrest during Euro 2020 last year.

The Denmark international fell to the ground during last summer's match against Finland, and subsequently had to leave his club Inter Milan as Serie A rules prevent players with cardioverter-defibrillator devices from playing. He has since arrived at Premier League outfit Brentford and worked his way back into the national team set-up – and was handed the captain's armband by Kasper Schmeichel for his return to the Parken Stadium.

He then netted a stunning goal to mark his return amid emotional scenes on Tuesday evening.

Romero left red-faced

Cristian Romero was left red-faced after travelling to South America for international duty for no reason.

The Spurs centre-back had been handed a two-match suspension while previously on international duty, although the Argentine FA had appealed the ban and were hoping it would be overturned for at least one of their fixtures this week. The defender sat out the 3-0 win over Venezuela on Friday but it was hoped he could play in Wednesday's clash with Ecuador.

But that definitely won't be happening as his suspension has been upheld, with the defender now set to fly back to the UK without playing a single competitive minute of football.

Belotti targeted

Andrea Belotti could be targeted as back-up for Tottenham forward Harry Kane in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Reports coming out of Italy claim Spurs are keen on the forward, whose contract at Torino expires this summer. He could provide a valuable alternative for Spurs, with the striker netting 109 goals in 244 appearances in all competitions for Torino, and 12 goals in 41 appearances for Italy.
