Tottenham news: Spurs investigating Son Heung-min incident as Vincent Kompany makes future call

Your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest on Monday, May 8.

Spurs investigating Son incident

Tottenham Hotspur are investigating an alleged racist gesture towards Son Heung-min during the home win against Crystal Palace.

Spurs centre-forward Harry Kane netted the only goal of the game, providing a perfectly-weighted side-footed pass to right-wing-back Pedro Porro, who returned the favour with a lovely cross that the England captain headed past a helpless Sam Johnstone on the stroke of half-time. But on Sunday, the Lillywhites released a statement detailing that there was an allegation of racial abuse towards Son during the match.

Their announcement read: "We are aware of an allegation of racial abuse towards Heung-Min Son during yesterday’s match. Discrimination of any kind is abhorrent and has no place in society, our game and at our Club.

"We are working with Met Police and Crystal Palace to investigate and identify the individual involved. We will do everything in our powers to ensure that if found guilty, the individual will receive the strongest possible action - as was the case earlier this season when Son suffered similar racial abuse at Chelsea."

Kompany ends speculation

Former Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany has been a name linked with a big move to Tottenham in recent weeks.

But the former City captain was adamant that he was going to stay at Turf Moor for the time being. He has backed that up by signing a new contract that will take his time with the club until 2028, showing the faith they have in the coach.

“Burnley and Turf Moor felt right pretty much from the start - so it also feels right to sign for the next five years," he told the club website. "Together with the fans we have made Turf Moor a fortress again and continue to look forward to the future and the job of making Burnley better with every step.”

Barcelona star lined-up

Tottenham are preparing for a huge summer transfer window ahead, with Daniel Levy preparing to rebuild the side for the next project ahead.

According to Sport, a player that could challenge him for a role in the side could be targeted, claiming that Barcelona star Franck Kessie is of interest.

The Ivorian is valued at roughly £22million, with Spurs making an enquiry over the possibility of a switch as Barca need to move players on before June 30 to boost their accounts. Inter Milan are another side rumoured with a move for the midfielder, though there are doubts over their ability to pay for the deal.
