Tottenham news: Spurs identify sporting director target amid emotional Lucas goodbye message

Your Tottenham Hotspur morning digest on Wednesday, May 24.

Lucas Moura goodbye

Lucas Moura has reflected on his time with the Lilywhites, reminiscing about his famous 2018/19 campaign that saw him net a hat-trick against Ajax in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final.

"I will try to speak and I will try to hold my tears. The experience that I had here along these five years - a lot of good games, good moments - I can say that I am very, very grateful because it was a pleasure to play here," he said in an interview that was part of Spurs' matchday programme for Saturday's match against Brentford.

"That game against Ajax of course is the best moment in my career so far. It was unbelievable - three goals, a semi-final, the last goal in the last seconds with my left foot. I don’t know how to explain this. In football we play for this kind of moment and I will keep this in my heart for my whole life.

"That 2018/19 season was brilliant - I think I scored 10 goals in the Premier League. I've always said that I'm not a striker, I'm not a number nine, I'm not a killer like Harry Kane, but I scored 10 goals in the Premier League, five goals in the Champions League and of course that semi-final - it was brilliant, amazing, my best season here in terms of numbers and then the Champions League Final itself. That season, the experiences that I had, I will never forget. I will show the videos to my kids in the future. It was very, very special."

Tim Steidten approach

According to German transfer guru Florian Plettenburg, Spurs want former Bayer Leverkusen chief Tim Steidten as their new sporting director.

Writing on Twitter, Plettenberg said: "News #Steidten: Spurs are interested to get him as their new sporting director. But it’s more advanced with two other clubs from the Premier League.

"Steidten (Hincapie, Wirtz, Adli, Frimpong, Tabsoba …) is ready to take over a new challenge next season.."

Stadium green light

Spurs' iconic Cockerel Clock is set to return to the high street outside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after Haringey Council approved its comeback this month.

The big clock, which dates back to the 1950s, is currently housed within the stadium's west atrium after being restored to its former glory, complete with 24 carat extra thick English gold leaf, by Gillett & Johnston, the company that manufactured it all those decades ago. Originally attached to The Red House, the clock is now ready to be displayed at its new home on the corner of the High Road and Park Lane, attached to a lamp post, similar to the one which Spurs as a club was founded at.
