Tottenham news: Spurs close in on £25m signing as Harry Kane drops hint on future

All those associated with Tottenham are probably wishing the season could start tomorrow.

After a strong end to the campaign secured Champions League football, there is incredible excitement as to what manager Antonio Conte can accomplish with this group of players after a full pre-season and a summer transfer window.

With Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster already through the door in north London, another high-profile acquisition looks to be close to completion according to reports. Conte appears keen on building a squad that can get Spurs as close to the top two as possible.

Bissouma set for Spurs move

According to reports on Tuesday, Tottenham are close to completing the signing of Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma in a £25 million deal.

Bissouma has been expected to leave the south coast club this summer, with just one year remaining on his current deal. It means he is also set to be available for a discounted price, which Spurs appear poised to take advantage of.

The Brighton midfielder is said to have been offered to West Ham first, while Arsenal have also been frequently linked with him. But Spurs are set to win the race.

The Mali international joined the Seagulls in 2018 and has proved to be an inspired acquisition. He will provide serious competition to last season's starting midfield duo of Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Kane drops hint on future

Harry Kane has said he expects to be a Tottenham player next season, following last summer's transfer saga.

Manchester City made numerous attempts to prise the England skipper away from north London last summer and while Kane was keen on the move, Spurs dug their heels in. Kane had a sluggish start to the campaign, but improved as the season went on.

With Champions League football to look forward to and Conte improving the team, Kane now seems content with life in north London.

"First and foremost I’m looking forward to getting away, but the plan is to be get back on July 8 and head to Korea with the boys," said Kane.

"I look forward to another season. I got on really well with Antonio in the time he was there and I’m looking forward to next season and what’s to come.

Eriksen offer made

According to reports, Manchester United have offered a contract to soon-to-be free agent Christian Eriksen.

The former Tottenham midfielder moved to Brentford on a short-term deal last season and was crucial in the team securing Premier League safety. However, despite interest from the Bees, he looks likely to move on this summer.

Spurs have been linked with a move for their former player, while Everton have also shown interest. However, it would appear United have made a significant play for the 30-year-old.

Eriksen's remarkable return to football was one of the stories of the previous season, after he suffered a cardiac arrest on the field at the European Championships last summer when playing for Denmark.
