Tottenham news: Mauricio Pochettino sends Harry Kane message amid Sergio Reguilon loan return

Your morning Tottenham Hotspur digest on Wednesday, February 8.

Mauricio Pochettino sends message to Tottenham star Harry Kane amid Premier League return links

Mauricio Pochettino has spoken of his pride in Harry Kane after the striker became Tottenham Hotspur's all-time leading goalscorer during Sunday's 1-0 win over Manchester City. Having pounced on a lacklustre play by Pep Guardiola's side in the 15th minute, Kane characteristically made no mistake by slotting past Ederson to score his 267th goal for the club and overtake Jimmy Greaves to claim top spot in the goalscoring ranks.

The pair were known to have enjoyed a superb relationship during their time together in north London and it was under the Argentine when Kane, arguably, played his best football. Pochettino famously guided Spurs to the 2019 UEFA Champions League final in 2019 and constructed teams that were unfortunate to miss out on Premier League titles in 2016 and 2017.

Pochettino posted an Instagram story which read: “Congratulations 267! Very proud of you @harrykane."

Tottenham could move for James Maddison and Marc Guehi this summer

football.london Tottenham Hotspur reporter Alasdair Gold has been discussing all things Spurs and hinted that the club may be in the market for James Maddison and Marc Guehi this summer. Responding to a fan question, Gold wrote: "I'd be surprised if Spurs aren't one of those looking at James Maddison in the summer, especially if he still has only a year left on his contract at that point.

"At the moment, with Djed Spence on loan at Rennes, they only have seven of the eight homegrown spots filled by senior players in their European squad. It's definitely an area that needs addressing in the summer whoever they end up targeting.

"Tottenham definitely like Marc Guehi, and like Maddison. I'd expect there will be plenty of competition for his signature if Palace decide to sell."

Tottenham loanee set to return to club after disappointing loan

Spurs defender Sergio Reguilon will be sent back to Hotspur Way from his loan spell at Atletico Madrid as he struggles to live up to expectations at the Wanda Metropolitano, according to Estadio Deportivo.

The left-back moved to Atletico on loan in the summer as a replacement for Renan Lodi when it was made clear he was not a part of Antonio Conte’s plans at Tottenham.

He has barely featured under Diego Simeone this season, though, arriving at the club injured and struggling to establish himself despite returning from that.
