Tottenham news: Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp hails Spurs' attack and Jordan Pickford linked

Here is your Spurs digest on Saturday, May 7.

Spurs linked with Pickford

Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford this summer. However, they could face competition from a host of other clubs including Newcastle for the England stopper’s signature.

According to talkSPORT the Toffees are ready to cash in on the 28-year-old and it’s believed that Pickford would consider leaving the Merseyside club if they're relegated this season. The goalkeeping position is one which Spurs boss Antonio Conte is rumoured to want to strengthen with on-loan reserve stopper Pierluigi Gollini expected to return to Atalanta at the end of the season.

The Lilywhites have also been linked with a move for West Brom keeper Sam Johnstone, but Pickford is perceived to be the more likely of the two to mount a serious challenge to usurp current number one Hugo Lloris.

Conte outlines roadmap to success

Antonio Conte believes Tottenham and any side wanting to challenge Manchester City and Liverpool will have to spend big money on 'important players' and not rely on miracles.

Spurs travel to Liverpool on Saturday trying to grab some points in their chase for fourth spot with Arsenal while Jurgen Klopp's side are duelling with Manchester City for the Premier League title. The fortunes of Tottenham and Liverpool have moved in different directions in recent years with Spurs having finished above the Reds for a number of years before recent seasons.

The watershed moment was the Champions League final in 2019 when Liverpool beat Spurs and the following season went on to win the Premier League title. The Merseyside club showed patience with Klopp as he rebuilt the team in the early years after arriving in 2015 and now they are reaping the rewards.

Klopp hails Spurs’ attack

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp believes coming up against Tottenham's attack on Saturday evening is the "biggest challenge for protection" his side have faced for a long time. Already winning the Carabao Cup and with a place in both the Champions League and FA Cup finals in the bag, the Reds are now intent on pipping Manchester City to the Premier League title.

Tottenham may have suffered a slight blip in recent weeks but they have produced a number of impressive performances since the end of February with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min playing a pivotal role in their upturn in form. With Spurs having won 3-2 at Man City in February, Klopp knows his players are in for a very tough evening due to the quality they have in the final third.

"It's a massive test (vs Spurs). People from the outside will say it's difficult for Liverpool and we think that too," said the German, as reported by Liverpool Echo . "Tottenham have massive quality and are not too much bothered away from home about having the ball all the time and are compact and play on the counter."
