With his long-term Tottenham future very much up in the air given all the Pedro Porro speculation at present, Emerson Royal provided a timely reminder of just what he can offer Antonio Conte's side on Monday evening at Fulham. Named in the starting XI for the second successive game, the Brazilian international played a key role in helping the team get back to winning ways.

As much as Tottenham fans would love to see the Italian's side playing free-flowing football and scoring goals for fun, it was vitally important that the Lilywhites just found a way to win in west London after those back-to-back defeats against Arsenal and Man City. Under the cosh for the majority of the first half and scoring against the run of play courtesy of a moment of magic from Harry Kane, it was not exactly pretty for the majority of the contest but they did get the job done.

Key to that was always going to be remaining strong at the back and frustrating the likes of Aleksandar Mitrovic, Willian and Bobby Decordova-Reid in the final third, especially after conceding a worrying 21 goals in their previous ten league fixtures. Registering only their second clean sheet in the league since the middle of October, Emerson was a pivotal figure at the back as he produced one of his best performances in a Tottenham shirt.

Bale's new career

areth Bale has been confirmed to be beginning a new career away from football, with the former Tottenham and Real Madrid forward announced to be taking part in a PGA Tour Pro-Am golf tournament early next month.

Bale ended his career after his participation in the World Cup last year, with the Wales star having spent the final months of his career playing for Los Angeles FC in MLS. His first Pro-Am golf competition will also take place in California, with the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am taking place at the beginning of February.

Bale was restricted from competing in all of the golf competitions that he would have liked to during his playing career and the chance to play alongside some of the biggest stars of the sport is a great opportunity just two weeks into his retirement.

Spurs hijack Danjuma

Tottenham expect to seal a move for Villarreal attacker Arnaut Danjuma on loan to bolster Antonio Conte's attacking options, football.london understands.

Everton were set to deal a deal for the 25-year-old who has scored six goals in 17 games this season for Villarreal but Spurs have swooped in at the last moment and are closing in on a deal for the Netherlands international. football.london understands that Danjuma is currently en route to Tottenham's Hotspur Way complex to complete his medical at the club.

Danjuma scored six goals in 11 Champions League matches last season as Villarreal reached the semi-finals as well as 10 goals in La Liga in 23 matches. The Lagos-born attacker, who turns 26 on transfer deadline day, can play either up front as a lone striker, as a support striker or on the left.
