Tottenham news: Antonio Conte has striker 'better than Erling Haaland' as Spurs appoint director

Your Tottenham morning digest on Monday, July 4.

Son praised amid Haaland and Salah comaprisons

Former Tottenham man Louis Saha spoke to BonusCodeBets and gave his verdict on who he thinks will win the Golden Boot next season. He said: "Harry Kane and Heung-min Son are contenders for the Golden Boot, but Erling Haaland is the perfect fit for Man City.

"Haaland is going to score headers, tap-ins and physical goals because Man City are masters in providing the ball to their forwards. So I can’t see any other top scorer than Haaland next season."

However Son did get his praise when Puma and Soccer Aid teamed up on the UMM YouTube channel and asked a range of celebrities to rank Son, Salah and Haaland. David Seaman and David James gave their verdict, with the former putting the Tottenham man last and the Egyptian first.

"Mo Salah has repeatedly done it and done it and done it. Son this season has been incredible and Haaland is still a young pup, with tremendous potential," James said. Brazil legends Cafu and Roberto Carlos were posed the same question and both put Salah first, but Son in second, over Haaland.

Doherty gives exciting Richarlison verdict

Matt Doherty has come up against Richarlison on plenty of occasions and has already given his verdict on Tottenham's latest signing. Speaking to the Spurs website, the Irishman spoke of his experience against the Brazilian from Spurs' 5-4 defeat to Everton in the cup last year.

The defender said: "One match that comes to mind was the FA Cup game where he ran a lot and caused us a lot of problems, and that was probably the main reason they beat us in that game and got through. He’s a very good player, very difficult to play against and has very good movement.

"I remember my first game for Tottenham was against Everton at home and he was playing off the left or as a striker so I know the problems that he can cause. Whenever you have a player who is right-footed and plays off the left – and I’m just speaking from my personal perspective – when a player can go inside and play as a number 10, can play out wide, can beat a man, it’s the worst thing to play against, so it’s very exciting for us."
