Tottenham manager news: Ralf Rangnick backs Julian Nagelsmann for job

Former Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick has appeared to throw his hat into the ring to be Tottenham’s new director of football if they appoint Julian Nagelsmann as head coach.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is on the hunt for a new head coach and director of football following the departures of Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici, and Nagelsmann is understood to be a coaching candidate after being sacked by Bayern Munich last month.

Rangnick, a celebrated sporting director, handpicked Nagelsmann as RB Leipzig’s coach in 2019 and has raised the possibility of working with the 35-year-old again in north London.

“If Tottenham really want Julian Nagelsmann, it’d be important to have a sporting director there to support him”, Rangnick told Sky Sports Germany. "This is not a club where they expect you to be in the top immediately. So it could be a very, very exciting story."

Rangnick added: “Tottenham are an exciting club in many ways. They’ve one of the best stadiums in the world. They have one of the best training facilities, and Daniel Levy, who has run the club for many, many years."

Rangnick, 64, is currently in charge of the Austrian national team after an unsuccessful spell as United’s interim boss last season.
