Glenn Hoddle has urged his former Tottenham Hotspur side to pip Newcastle United to the signing of Leicester City midfielder James Maddison. The Magpies saw two bids rejected for Maddison in the summer and could look to return for him in January.
Maddison is out of contract at Leicester in 2024 and is yet to come to an agreement on a new deal which could tempt suitors into making a move. Spurs have been linked with the 25-year-old in the past but did not make a move for him during the window as they instead moved forward on other targets.
However, Antonio Conte's side have severely lacked creativity at times this season and Maddison is the sort of player who could help fix that. It is for that reason that Hoddle believes Spurs should make their move for him in January.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: "They [Tottenham] need some creativity. Because at the moment it’s down to them [Kane and Son], it’s down to Harry dropping in and creating when I think the style of the players they’ve got up the pitch, if you did have that [Christian] Eriksen when he was Tottenham, for example.
"Maddison, I agree with whoever said that in the background, I love him, I think he’s one that should be in the England squad. I think if he was playing at the top – no disrespect to Leicester – but if he was playing in a top-six team he would be absolutely sensational and probably a shoo-in.
"You know, someone like that who comes in off the lines, creative, you’ve only got to look at the best teams in the country and you’ve got them sort of players."
