Tottenham legend Ossie Ardiles undergoes successful heart surgery

Tottenham legend Ossie Ardiles is recovering in hospital after undergoing heart surgery.

The 69-year-old former Spurs player and manager had a procedure performed on his heart this week.

Tottenham tweeted: “The club would like to extend its best wishes to our ambassador and legendary former player @osvaldooardiles, who successfully underwent heart surgery this week and is now recovering in hospital. Wishing you a speedy recovery, Ossie!”

One of Tottenham’s all-time greats, Ardiles won the 1978 World Cup with Argentina and made 311 appearances for Spurs between 1978-1988.

He helped the club reach the final of the 1982 FA Cup and lift the UEFA Cup in 1984.

Capped 53 times by Argentina, Ardiles moved into management at the end of his playing career, initially as player/manager at Swindon before spells at Newcastle, West Brom and then a return to Spurs in 1993.

He later had success in Japan, where he won the J-League, Emperor’s Cup and Nabisco Cup.

Now a Tottenham ambassador, Ardiles has represented the club abroad and as a matchday host.
