Tottenham 'lead transfer race' to sign 'elite' Bristol City teenager Alex Scott

Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott, according to London World.

Spurs are said to be at the front of the queue for the highly-rated 18-year-old and could complete a move for him this summer.

Antonio Conte’s side had an uninspiring January transfer window, signing just two players on deadline day, and now it seems as though they are keen to get their summer business done early ahead of next season.

And Scott could be one of the first new faces through the doors at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium following the conclusion of this season, with a number of current midfielders at the club on course to depart.

The England under 19 international has also attracted interest from Premier League sides West Ham United and Everton, but London World claim that Spurs are leading the race to secure his signature.

Is Scott the type of player Spurs should be looking to sign ahead of next season? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Scott was signed by Bristol City in January 2020 from Guernsey and made his debut three months later, coming off the bench as a 71st minute substitute in a 3-2 loss to Luton Town in the Championship.

He made two more appearances in 2020-21 but as of this season, he has already totalled up 26 appearances for the Robins in the Championship, scoring three times.

He has become a regular under manager Nigel Pearson and has highly impressed with his performances, which have seen him likened to Jack Grealish.

Sources inside his current club apparently regard the midfield gem as an ‘elite’ player with bags of potential, while his former manager at Guernsey praised him for his ‘tremendous balance’ and ability to ‘float around the pitch’ in an interview with Bristol World.

Scott has played the most minutes this season out of any 18-year-old in the division and has been one of the highlights of Bristol City’s uninspiring season so far, as they sit 16th in the Championship.

The report by London World also confirms that Spurs sent their senior scout Peter Braund to Ashton Gate recently to watch over the attacking midfielder, and with the north London club supposedly at the front of the queue to sign him, he clearly impressed.

Antonio Conte has been keen to overhaul his midfield this season and Tanguy Ndombele, Bryan Gil, Giovani Lo Celso and Dele Alli all departed in the January transfer window.

Although Ndombele, Gil and Lo Celso are still contracted to the club having only left on loan, questions remain over the future of all three.

And they could now look to the Championship with one eye on the future by bringing in Scott, who is being tipped for a bright future.
