Tottenham join Arsenal and Chelsea in transfer race for Brighton star in Antonio Conte plan

Tottenham are set to join London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea in the transfer race to sign Brighton star Leandro Trossard in the coming weeks. The Daily Mail reports that the Lilywhites are monitoring the Belgian's current situation in anticipation of a potential battle for his signature.

The 28-year-old was nearing the end of his contract at the end of this season, but reports also claim that the Seagulls have triggered a one-year extension clause held within it. That will take his deal to 2024, that being the same one he was offered since joining from Genk in 2019.

Since then, Trossard's rise has been impressive, becoming a vital player of a Brighton team that has become a well-oiled machine in talent spotting. His ten goal involvements in 16 Premier League appearances have earned his side some ambitions of European football, sitting eighth in the division.

The forward's impressive performances have led to plenty of transfer interest, with Chelsea one of the first sides linked with a swoop. Trossard was a key player under Graham Potter, meaning a reunion could be on the cards as they begin their rebuild under the new boss.

Arsenal have also since been linked, with Trossard's versatility and all-round quality seen as an asset that could be of use to the Gunners' charge at the top of the table. As such, Tottenham's interest may come as little surprise, given the current need for further depth in the forward areas.

The Belgium international doesn't just offer plenty there though as he also has a track record of performing well as a wing-back for Brighton. This could be useful for Antonio Conte, who has a reliance on his wide players to create a lot of chances on the flanks during matches.

It remains to be seen if a move will be an option in the January window though, with Brighton CEO Paul Barber making his stance clear in an interview with the Argus: "We have not offered anyone to anyone and have no plans to. In an ideal world our squad, which is as good as it has been for a long time, will remain intact through the whole of January and we will go into the second half of the season as we are.

"The next 30-odd days are unpredictable and we will deal with whatever comes in. But we are not offering anyone to anyone.”
