Tottenham injury update: James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur and Ryan Sessegnon latest news and return dates

Tottenham were dealt a scare after a hugely encouraging 2-0 win over Manchester United on Saturday.

James Maddison, who looks increasingly like the perfect signing for Spurs, was spotted leaving the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on crutches.

With the England international already emerging as a key player only two Premier League games into his Tottenham career, that is a major worry.

Rodrigo Bentancur, another creative outlet in Ange Postecoglou’s squad, is also out and thereby makes the need for Maddison even more pressing.

Here is your latest update on Tottenham injuries and return dates.

James Maddison

As mentioned above, Maddison was spotted leaving the Spurs ground on crutches following the win over Manchester United on Saturday.

Still, the former Leicester City playmaker is believed to have told reporters that the matter was purely precautionary.

Potential return date: Saturday 26 August vs Bournemouth

Rodrigo Bentancur

Bentancur suffered a serious knee injury earlier this year (PA)

The Uruguay international ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during a game with Leicester in February and has since undergone an operation.

Earlier this summer, the former Juventus midfielder set a timeframe of “two to three months” on his return, which could mean he is back in action by early September.

“It’s a long injury, one of the most difficult in football, but the truth is that I’m having such a good time with my family,” he said in June. “I train the same every day, I do double shifts two or three times a week.

“I brought the club’s physiotherapist to Uruguay. We continue working and my knee is doing very well. I didn’t set a lap time, but I hope in two or three months to be at least gaining a few minutes again.”

Potential return date: Mid-September 2023

Ryan Sessegnon

Ryan Sessegnon was denied a potential move away from Spurs earlier this summer after a hamstring injury picked up over the summer.

The former Fulham youngster is not expected back before the transfer window shuts after going under the knife.

Potential return date: September 2023

Bryan Gil

Another player who could have left Tottenham this summer, winger Bryan Gil underwent surgery on a groin injury earlier this month and could miss up to eight weeks of action.
