Tottenham injury update: Destiny Udogie, Rodrigo Bentancur and Ryan Sessegnon latest news and return dates

The mood at Tottenham has certainly been lifted since Ange Postecoglou’s arrival earlier in the summer.

Spurs sit third in the table after making an unbeaten start to the Premier League season, continuing that over the weekend with a routine win over Bournemouth.

James Maddison overcame an injury concern to star in that victory, but a number of his team-mates remain unavailable as they recovery from issues of their own.

Here’s a look at the latest Tottenham injury news...

Destiny Udogie

There was an injury scare for Spurs in their win over Bournemouth as Destiny Udogie came off late on, but Ange Postecoglou confirmed that was precautionary and the wing-back could be involved in the midweek Carabao Cup clash against Fulham.

“I think he just kicked the ground from what I understand,” the Tottenham boss said in his post-match press conference.

“Just speaking to him now he’s fine.”

Potential return date: August 29 vs Fulham

Rodrigo Bentancur

Rodrigo Bentancur has been out since February with a serious knee injury.

When recently asked about his recovery by a fan, the midfielder revealed he needs “two months”, suggesting he could return to training in October.

Potential return date: October 2023

Bryan Gil

Winger Bryan Gil had surgery on a groin issue at the start of August, leaving him unavailable for the start of the season.

A statement from the club read: “Bryan, who spent the second part of last season on loan at Sevilla, will be closely monitored by our medical team to determine when he can return to training.”

He is set to miss a couple of months, meaning he could return towards the end of October or early November.

Potential return date: October 2023

Ryan Sessegnon

Ryan Sessegnon remains on the sidelines after he underwent surgery on a hamstring injury picked up in pre-season.

No update on his recovery has been given, but the left-back is expected to face a lengthy spell out.

“Devastated and not really sure what to say right now,” Sessengon posted on social media.

“Hopefully this provides a light at the end of the tunnel. I feel very hungry and motivated to return stronger than ever and be back to doing what I do best for you guys.”

Potential return date: Unknown

Alfie Whiteman

Alfie Whiteman was stretchered off during an open training session in Singapore in pre-season.

The goalkeeper subsequently underwent surgery on the ankle injury, with Spurs stating earlier this month that a timescale for his return to training would be “determined in due course”.
