Spurs are digging for victory by signing a gardener to grow organic grub.
The North London club hopes a green-fingered wizard will give them the veg in their title chase.
And maybe they can help the likes of highly productive striker Harry Kane hit the onion bag.
But in comparison with Tottenham ’s multi-millionaire players, the gardener’s wage is chickenfeed – £30,000 a year.
For that, he or she will tackle vegetable plots and fruit trees at the club’s training ground and pass on organic nosh to the plates of first-teamers including striker Son Heung-min and goalie Hugo Lloris.
Tottenham are currently blooming in the Premiership but trailing to table toppers and arch North London rivals Arsenal. They fell foul of Manchester Utd last week 2-0 and Spurs’ Italian manager Antonio Conte knows there is not mushroom for slip ups if they are going to land the league title.
Tottenham’s grow-your-own produce drive is believed to be the first among Premier League clubs.
And an ad calls for a gardener who really knows their onions.
It says: “The Club operates across multiple sites, including a world-class Training Centre, where the position of Organic Kitchen Gardener is based.
“They will be responsible for the production of organic vegetables and fruit to be used by the Chef in the First Team and Academy on site restaurants.
“They will be hard-working, enthusiastic and have a strong focus on quality and presentation.
“The role would suit an experienced kitchen gardener who is self-motivated, confident, has the ability to come up with new ideas and work independently and within a team.”
The successful candidate should have “two years of experience as a kitchen gardener with knowledge of production practices such as sowing, crop husbandry and harvesting for our fine dining restaurant”.
One fan said: “Organic gardener? It’s a new one on me but Spurs fans would give anything a shot if it gets us a trophy.”
In 2019 Tottenham faced ridicule when the club unveiled plans for a VIP cheese room at its new £1billion stadium.
