Tottenham Hotspur dealt major Matt Doherty blow, Jurgen Klopp on the title race

Here are the latest Premier League headlines for Monday, April 11.

Doherty to miss rest of season

Matt Doherty is set to miss the rest of Tottenham's season following the knee injury he suffered against Aston Villa on Saturday, as per football.london. The 30-year-old Irishman has become a key player in recent weeks for Antonio Conte with two goals and two assists in five matches as Spurs battle for fourth place in the Premier League.

However, he suffered a knee injury early on in Saturday's victory at Villa Park following a challenge from Matty Cash. Doherty attempted to play on after treatment but eventually had to come off and was seen leaving the stadium with a knee brace.

It is understood that scans on the injury have now revealed that the Republic of Ireland international has ruptured his medial collateral ligament in his knee and will be out for up to 12 weeks. That not only rules him out for the rest of the season but means his chances of playing in his country's Nations League matches in June are all but over.

No decision is understood to have been made yet over whether the wing-back will undergo surgery. His absence will be a blow to Conte who had been full of praise for Doherty for his performances in recent weeks and hoped on Saturday that the injury would not be a bad one.

"I hope nothing serious, I hope," the Spurs boss said on Saturday. "The doctors are going to check on him tomorrow. I hope nothing serious because he wanted to try to continue to play but then at the end he preferred to come out. I hope so because Matthew is an important player for us and I hope this injury is not serious."

However, it has proved to be a season-ending injury and Conte will now have to rely on 24-year-old Brazilian Emerson Royal as his only fit right wing-back for the final seven matches of the season.

Klopp on 'boxing fight' City clash

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted that their game against Manchester City was like a 'boxing fight' as they fought back to claim a point. The Reds remain a point behind leaders City with seven games to play after Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane both netted in a thrilling 2-2 draw on Sunday afternoon.

Pep Guardiola's side - who were 14 points clear of Liverpool in mid-January - had previously won all 23 Premier League games this season in which they had taken the lead. Klopp told Sky Sports: "It was like a boxing fight. You have your arms down for a second and get a massive knock and you shake a little.

"I liked a lot of things. I thought we were closer than ever. The second half start was much better. City really tried obviously things like balls in behind. It makes sense when you have these smart runs. In moments when we tried to breathe a little bit another one comes. It was a great game and the result, we have to live with and can live with.

"We could do better but in a lot of moments, we did really well. The intensity of the game is crazy. It was good fun, I liked it."

Tuchel says Lukaku is still out

Thomas Tuchel has confirmed Romelu Lukaku will not travel with the Chelsea squad for their trip to Real Madrid on Tuesday night. The 28-year-old forward missed the weekend's win against Southampton due to pain in his Achilles.

Now, Tuchel has spoken about the Blues' absentees, as they look to overturn a 3-1 deficit at the Santiago Bernabeu. He said: "Callum Hudson-Odoi is still out, Chilwell is out. Romelu will not travel with us due to the pain in his Achilles.

"Azpi is in the group, he has tested negative several times. Ross Barkley is sick and will not travel, everyone else is in the squad."

Tuchel knows his Chelsea team have it all to do in the Spanish capital on Tuesday if they want to take another step to retaining their Champions League crown. The German expects his side to have a really tough task on their hands.

He said: "Not the biggest chance given the first game's results and given the competition and the opponent and the stadium. We never manage our input by the chances we have for our result.

"It is unlikely but it is worth trying and trying means that we will play to our fullest and to our full limit. This is what it is, it is a big night."

He added: "We need nothing else other than a fantastic script. The task and challenge is incredibly hard and against who we play and where we play.

"We're allowed to dream, it's sometimes important to imagine things and dream about. It will not shift the focus, we will support our team and we will try hard. It's sports and it's a game and that's the beauty of the game, that everything is possible always."
