Tottenham may have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of Leicester City and England playmaker James Maddison in the transfer window. It comes as Brendan Rodgers made an admission over the difficulties for his side to raise funds for their own planned signings.
A creative player has been a missing piece for Spurs since the arrival of Antonio Conte, with the side unable to land one in the summer window. Christian Eriksen was linked with filling that role as a free agent, but the Lilywhites didn't pursue a return as the Dane made a move to Manchester United.
Conte has already seen his forward lines decimated with injuries, with Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison currently missing from action. Discussing the issues, the head coach said: "I remember very well that I said in our team when we miss two or three important players we have problems... I remember I said if you have four players, the strikers who are usually the creative players, and two are injured, we are in trouble."

One of the players that has been linked to help solve the creative issues is Leicester midfielder Maddison, who was rumoured with a switch in the summer. The 26-year-old has impressed so far this season and with just one-year-and-a-half left on his deal with the Foxes.
With the January window upon us, Leicester manager Rodgers may have dropped a huge hint over a move, discussing the difficulties to raise funds. He told reporters: "It’s getting more difficult. The financial resources, not just in the top six, makes it really difficult. Clubs have multiple injections of finances. We have one owner and one family. Each year it gets tougher. It doesn’t soften our ambition to be super competitive.”
It remains to be seen if an offer for the playmaker could put pressure on a move as Conte looks for reinforcements for the second half of the campaign.
