Tottenham left-back Ben Davies has withdrawn from the Wales squad for the March internationals. Davies was initially named vice-captain by Rob Page for his side's clashes against Croatia and Latvia, but the 29-year-old will no longer join up with the camp after picking up an injury in Spurs' 3-3 draw at Southampton on Saturday.
After falling to the ground holding his right leg, Davies appeared to receive treatment on his hamstring. Although he did not seem to be in too much discomfort, the defender was ultimately substituted in the 37th minute and replaced by Ivan Perisic.
The upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers are set to come too soon for Davies, who was replaced in the squad by uncapped Stoke defender Morgan Fox. He will now spend the next fortnight recovering from the issue, with it remaining unclear whether he could be in contention to return for Spurs' next match against Everton at the start of April.

Davies' withdrawal came as a further setback for Antonio Conte, who had already been forced to take off Richarlison after the Brazilian limped off the pitch in tears inside just five minutes. Like Davies, Richarlison will also miss out on representing his national side this month, after the Brazilian football federation (CBF) confirmed in a statement that he will not take part in their away friendly against Morocco on Saturday.
However, the injury concerns were the last thing on Conte's mind in his post-match press conference. After witnessing his side blow a 3-1 lead to the Premier League's bottom side, the Italian delivered a furious rant about the culture at Tottenham.
Conte was livid with his side's late collapse, and duly took aim at every facet associated with the club. This has further fuelled speculation suggesting Conte's contract, which was due to end this summer anyway, could be prematurely terminated and a new man could be in the north London hot seat for Davies' return to full fitness.
