Tottenham could hand Chelsea major transfer boost if Daniel Levy secures Memphis Depay deal

After a succession of big moves already this summer, Tottenham are reported to still be in the hunt for big names to bolster their squad ahead of next season, with Barcelona's Memphis Depay reportedly being lined up.

According to Sport, via Sport Witness, Spurs have moved forward in their pursuit of the former Manchester United man and have 'officially taken the step' to sign the forward after months of rumours. The rumours could have ended after the signing of Richarlison was secured, but Antonio Conte and the club's hierarchy appear to be pushing forward with a move for the Dutchman.

This move could be a boost for Chelsea in their current pursuit of Sevilla's Jules Kounde, with it being reported that Barcelona were looking to use the 28-year-old Depay as a makeweight in their moves to sign the French centre-back.

The striker only signed for Barcelona last summer after a successful spell with French club Lyon, linking up with his former international manager Ronald Koeman. He scored 12 goals in 28 games but after the arrival of Xavi to replace Koeman he fell out of favour and is now being pushed out of the Camp Nou.

Spurs have already dealt with Barcelona this summer, in their deal to sign centre-back Clement Lenglet from Barcelona and reportedly enquired about the Netherlands international at that stage. However, the two clubs appear to differ in their valuations of the player with the Catalan club demanding a €20 million (£16.9 million) fee for the winger, with Spurs are only ‘willing to pay’ €17m (£14.4m).

After Barca signed Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski this summer, the formerly cash strapped La Liga giants will need to recoup the fees through some player sales with Depay chief among them in the eyes of manager Xavi. However, Depay is thought to want to stay and fight for his place at the club, nor is he keen on a move to England after a negative experience at Manchester United.
