Tottenham confirm Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg exit as rebuild continues

Marseille have confirmed the signing of Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The French club have sealed an initial loan deal for the Danish international with an obligation to make it a permanent arrangement for £17m next summer.

Spurs are also thought to have included a sell-on clause in the agreement as manager Ange Postecoglou continues his rebuild in north London.

Hojbjerg, who was due to be out of contract next summer, rejected a move to Fulham last year and made only eight Premier League starts last season.

Jose Mourinho signed the midfielder from Southampton in the summer of 2020 and Hojbjerg went on to make 184 appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals and registering 16 assists in the process.

Postecoglou has overseen a reshaping of the Spurs squad this summer, releasing all of Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon, Tanguy Ndombele and Japhet Tanganga.

Joe Rodon and Troy Parrott have joined Leeds and AZ Alkmaar respectively, with Spurs retaining an interest in Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.
