Tottenham confirm Eric Dier departure as defender completes Bayern Munich move to reunite with Harry Kane

Eric Dier has completed his move to Bayern Munich, bringing an end almost a decade as a Tottenham player.

The defender arrived in Germany to undergo a medical on Thursday and is now officially a Bayern player, having signed on loan for the rest of the season. Bayern have the option to make it a permanent move in the summer.

Dier has made just one start this under Ange Postecoglou and was out of contract at the end of the campaign.

"This move is a dream come true for me, because as a child you want to play for a club like Bayern one day," Dier said.

"Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world and has an incredible history. I want to help the team with my versatility in defense. I’m really looking forward to my new teammates and the fans at the Allianz Arena, which in my eyes is one of the best stadiums in the world.”

The 29-year-old agreed personal terms with Bayern last week but has had to wait for the move to go through, as the Bundesliga side considered other targets including Radu Dragusin.

The Romanian ultimately opted to join Spurs instead though, resulting in Bayern pushing ahead with a move for Dier and reuniting him with former Tottenham team-mate Harry Kane.

Dier was one of Spurs' longest-serving players, behind only Ben Davies who arrived in north London a few days earlier in the summer of 2024, and went on to make 364 appearances for the club.

The last of those came on New Year's Eve, when Dier was brought off the bench for the final seven minutes in Tottenham's win over Bournemouth.
