Former Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Rafael van der Vaart has urged the club to make a move for Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech in the final few days of the January transfer window.
The north Londoners are currently working hard to secure recruits ahead of deadline day, with Antonio Conte keen to add to his current squad following an underwhelming first half of the campaign.
Spurs, though, have unfortunately been frustrated in the window with respective moves for the likes of Porto’s Luis Diaz and Adama Traore of Wolverhampton Wanderers having fallen by the wayside.
It remains to be seen whether Conte and director of football Fabio Paratici will be able to welcome any new faces to the club before the deadline but one man who has been backed to succeed should he choose to sign is current Chelsea playmaker Hakim Ziyech.
Ex-Spurs star van der Vaart has revealed that he is a big fan of the former Ajax man and that he could play a big part in a more positive second-half to the season.
Talking to The Times, he said: “I’ve been saying that for some time now, but I believe Ziyech is the type of player who could make a big impact in the current Spurs team.
“With a playmaker like him, chances are things will start to go much better. Then Son doesn’t have to go deep to collect the ball and Kane can just remain up front as a striker as well.
“Because they miss someone who can feed them those balls. Now they have to work too hard.”
Since arriving at Stamford Bridge, Ziyech has failed to establish a consistent call for a first-team role.
He has scored just 12 goals in 63 outings for the club in his time in west London but two of those have come in each of his last two Premier League games against both Brighton & Hove Albion and, ironically, Tottenham.
The 28-year-old’s great recent form has come amid his longest run of Premier League starts since November 2020.
Ziyech still has three-and-a-half years left to run on his contract at Stamford Bridge and is valued at £31.5million by transfermarkt.
