Tottenham agree first Deadline Day deal with more expected to follow

Struggle: Tottenham midfielder George Abbott spent the first half of the season on loan at Wycombe - (Getty Images)

Tottenham midfielder George Abbott is set to join League One side Mansfield on a straight loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old will depart Spurs again in search of regular first-team minutes after returning from a loan spell at third-tier Wycombe in January.

Abbott made 14 appearances across all competitions for Wycombe, but struggled to impress after being left out of 12 of their last 13 league games before his early return to Tottenham.

The England youth international is not the only academy graduate expected to leave Spurs on Deadline Day, with Under-21s captain Callum Olusesi attracting loan interest from clubs in Italy, Germany and the Netherlands.

Standard Sport reported earlier this week that Tottenham have already rejected £6million bids from both Hoffenheim and PSV Eindhoven for Olusesi, with the club not interested in a permanent sale.

Spurs would prefer a domestic loan, with interest from several Championship clubs, but Olusesi is said to be keen on a loan move abroad.

Centre-back Alfie Dorrington is also now being linked with a loan switch to Salford in League Two.

Head coach Thomas Frank insisted that Spurs will be active in the transfer market on Deadline Day, but said the club will not be prioritising short-term fixes.

Frank did not, however, rule out potentially entering the loan market, with injuries piling up after 11 senior players missed Sunday's 2-2 draw at home to Manchester City in the Premier League.

The futures of Randal Kolo Muani, Mathys Tel and Radu Dragusin are also expected to be cleared up before Monday’s 7pm GMT deadline.
