Torrey Devitto Opens Up About Decision To Leave The Vampire Diaries

The Vampire Diaries tv series

Torrey DeVitto made a firm decision to not return to The Vampire Diaries after her divorce from Paul Wesley. The actress, known for her role as Dr. Meredith Fell in the popular supernatural drama, revealed on a podcast that she went through a challenging period following her split from Wesley. DeVitto expressed that the public nature of their divorce, due to Wesley's fame from the show, made it a difficult time for her.

Despite appearing in six episodes of the series, DeVitto decided against continuing to work on The Vampire Diaries post-divorce, citing personal reasons for her choice. She emphasized that she did not feel comfortable returning to the show under the circumstances and preferred to move on from that chapter of her life.

The scrutiny from fans and the media added to the distress DeVitto experienced, with people often comparing her subsequent relationships to her past marriage with Wesley. The actress found this attention mortifying, especially as fans idolized Wesley's character on the show without truly knowing him as a person.

Wesley and DeVitto had tied the knot after meeting on the set of a movie in 2007 but parted ways after two years of marriage. Wesley later dated Phoebe Tonkin, another actress from The Vampire Diaries, before marrying Ines de Ramon. However, the couple separated in 2022, and Wesley has since been linked to model Natalie Kuckenberg.

On the other hand, DeVitto has found happiness in her current relationship with Jared LaPine, to whom she is engaged. The couple is also expecting their first child together, marking a new chapter in DeVitto's life after the challenges she faced post-divorce.
