A top surgeon who dodged jail after an Old Firm bust-up with his partner is to be investigated by a medical watchdog.
Dr Graeme Holt, a leading hip replacement surgeon, had a blazing row with senior charge nurse Jennifer Joseph after Rangers beat Celtic 2-1 at Parkhead.
He began shouting and swearing at her after she found out his ex-wife had been at their home in Irvine, Ayrshire.
Holt admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court and was placed under supervision for two years.
He will now be investigated by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) later this month over the December 2019 incident.
A hearing citation said: "The tribunal will inquire into the allegation that, on 2 March 2020 at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court, Dr A was convicted of a domestic abuse offence and subsequently given a community payback order."
The tribunal will decide if his fitness to practise medicine is impaired and what action, if any, is needed.
Holt had originally gone on trial and denied any wrongdoing but changed his plea to guilty after Miss Joseph gave evidence against him.
He had also been accused of assaulting her by seizing her by the neck but a plea of not guilty to that charge was accepted by prosecutors.
The surgeon was placed under supervision for two years by Sheriff Michael Hanlon as a 'direct alternative' to jail.
His lawyer said Holt had turned to alcohol due to the stress of working 80 hour weeks at Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, where both he and Joseph worked.
Neil McPherson, defending, said: "He didn't realise, possibly because of an ego some of us suffer from, that he wasn't coping.
"In order to relieve the tension, particularly on days off, he was drinking too much.
"His behaviour that day had gone way beyond what's expected of anybody and became criminal."
Holt had been suspended by NHS Ayrshire and Arran following his conviction but he was drafted back in due to staff shortages caused by the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The MPTS tribunal hearing in Manchester has been scheduled for July 11.
