Household bills for every home across Scotland are due to rise by an average of two per cent above inflation until 2027.
And with inflation predicted to hit six per cent in April, that means the average family bill could rise by a staggering £263.
While the outlook for 2022 is looking a bit bleak - without a bit of intervention to ease the financial squeeze from either the Scottish or UK Government - now may be the time to invest in a loyalty scheme to help give yourself some rewards for benign a frequent flyer at supermarkets or coffee shops.
Pension Times has researched the most popular loyalty scheme cards in the UK which offer the best rewards and savings for 2022 and shared details for their top seven choices.
Seven loyalty schemes and their rewards
Nectar Card
Nectar is the largest scheme in the UK with around 18 million customers and can be used in multiple stores and online retailers, such as Argos and eBay. Get one point per £1 spent at Sainsbury’s in stores and online and a point for every litre of fuel bought - one point is worth 0.5p.
Tesco Clubcard
More than 17 million Tesco shoppers are signed up to the supermarket’s loyalty scheme.
The Clubcard scheme allows customers to collect one point for every £1 spent in stores or online and one for every £2 spent on fuel.
Points can also be traded in for three times the value with Tesco’s reward partners, including RAC, Disney Plus and Cineworld.
Clubcard holders also get special discounts on products in-store.
Caffè Nero Card
The Caffè Nero loyalty card is a loyalty card that can be used to collect stamps for any barista-prepared drinks.
Once nine stamps have been collected a free hot drink of any size will be earned.
Costa Card
Costa Coffee introduced a new loyalty scheme in September 2021 which swapped the points scheme to 'beans' claiming to give customers more free drinks than before.
Costa Club members will receive one Bean for every barista-crafted hot or cold drink.
Once a Costa Club member has earned eight Beans, customers will receive a voucher for a free barista-crafted drink of any size.
McDonalds Points Scheme
McDonald's recently launched a brand new loyalty scheme where customers can earn 100 points for every £1 spent at the chain, although you do have to collect more points for certain items to get them for free.
Customers can collect points when they buy food from the fast-food chain and exchange these points for their favourite meals.
There are 15 items you can get for free once you've earned enough points, including popular breakfast items and McFlurries.
Ikea Family Card
As a member, customers have access to discounted prices on selected IKEA products as well as inspirational workshops, great ideas and a free hot drink every time you shop! Once signed up users can start to enjoy the benefits straight away.
Superdrug Health and Beauty Card
The Superdrug health and beauty card gives shoppers one point for every £1 spent, which amounts to a penny to spend at Superdrug.
Once enough points are collected they can be used to pay for purchases in stores and online at Superdrug.
