Top of the naughty list: Londoners named worst Uber passengers

Based on rider ratings from 2023, Uber has revealed the naughtiest and nicest cities in Britain before the holiday season.

It seems London and Birmingham will need to find some holiday spirit to raise their rankings, as they were placed high in the naughty list.

London ranked with an average score of 4.72, followed by those in Birmingham, who have an average score of 4.76.

On the flip side, with a score of 4.9, Merseyside cyclists hold a commanding lead on the pleasant list this year, closely followed by Stoke (4.88) and Cambridge and East Anglia (4.89).

Full rider ratings list for 2023:

  • Merseyside - 4.9

  • Cambridge and East Anglia - 4.89

  • Stoke - 4.88

  • Brighton and Sussex - 4.86

  • Edinburgh - 4.86

  • Sheffield - 4.85

  • Cardiff - 4.85

  • Oxford - 4.84 -

  • Glasgow - 4.83

  • Leeds - 4.82

  • Manchester - 4.82

  • Nottingham - 4.82

  • Leicester - 4.81

  • Birmingham - 4.76

Uber is giving £50 Uber credit for rail travel this Christmas to hundreds of customers* on its "nice list", who have the best rider ratings in the nation, as an early Christmas present. The top-rated riders' Uber accounts will automatically receive credit for train reservations in December.

Uber is deploying teams of assistants to UK train stations to assist individuals who didn't quite make it on to their "nice list" this year.

If members of the public can demonstrate that their rider rating is higher than the 4.83 national average, Uber will exchange Uber credit for a train ticket home. Major rail stations will be visited by Uber's crew of holiday workers in December.

Drivers have listed some of the top reasons they hand out fewer stars.

  • Slamming the door. It is always advisable to treat the driver's car with respect and care.
  • Rude or aggressive passengers. These are, predictably, the least well liked by drivers and are a surefire way to lower your rating.
  • Eating while in the car. It's important to avoid getting that dinner kebab or breakfast croissant all over the seat.
  • Playing loud music on your phone or asking to smoke while the window is open. Carrying an after-party drink into the car is never a good idea.
  • Not fastening your seatbelt. Even though it should go without saying, people still unsurprisingly fail to buckle up for safety.

The busiest drop-off locations in the UK were King's Cross St Pancras, and railway stations in Manchester and Leeds, according to the Uber data.

“Train stations have always been a popular destination for riders, but now with Trains on Uber we can help our customers with the next step of their journey," Andrew Brem, general manager at Uber UK, said.

"We’re so grateful for our top rated riders, who make every journey fantastic for Uber drivers and we’re thrilled to be offering them credit towards a train home this Christmas,” he added.
