Top mum confessions revealed: restaurant offers agony aunt session over glass of free fizz

On the back of a survey which found Brit mums top mothering confessions, Frankie & Benny's is putting on Mother’s Day confessional booths this Sunday, giving mothers across the UK the chance to share their parenting tales with an agony aunt over a glass of fizz. Frankie & Benny’s Printworks location in Manchester will be getting in on the action, setting up booths to provide mums with a listening ear and the opportunity to fess up.

It follows the publication of a new survey by the restaurant group, which asked mums about their mothering confessions and top tricks. Three in five of those surveyed admitted feeling pressured to be the perfect parent and more than 90 per cent of mums surveyed said it is impossible to parent without telling white lies.

Luana Herrmann, Head of Brand & Marketing at Frankie & Benny’s, said: “We pride ourselves on being a family-friendly restaurant and a safe place where you can just relax and enjoy the experience in your own way. This Mother’s Day we want to celebrate mums everywhere (no matter who you are) and lift up the weight of perfection by allowing you to share some relatable and hilarious ‘mothering confessions.’”

Of the 1,008 mums asked, only 1% said they hadn’t experienced any of the mothering situations listed, which ranged from “borrowing” money from a child's piggy bank and sneaking vegetables into food, to turning the clocks forward for an early night. On average, it found that mums commit at least four a week – and 95 per cent said these tricks help them keep sane and be a better mum overall.

Pretending to watch their favourite TV show whilst scrolling through social media topped the list at 54 per cent, closely followed by using Google to help do homework and raiding a child’s sweet stash after they have gone to bed came in strong at 48 per cent. And while the majority of mums say they are able to 'confess' to and share with their friends and partners, at least 10 per cent don’t have anyone to offload onto for fear of being judged.

Manned by professional agony aunts, the confessional booths aim to give mums across the UK the opportunity to share their funny parenting tales, confess any cheeky mothering stories or just chat to a friendly face - all whilst enjoying a free glass of bubbles whilst they wait for their meal. The Mother’s Day booths can be found at the Printworks in Manchester, The Strand in London and Braehead, Glasgow on Mother’s Day (March 27) between 1-4pm.
