Top Gun: 'Matherick' Carol Vorderman wows crowd in khaki flying suit at Leicester Square premiere

Self-professed Top Gun fan and pilot Carol Vorderman wowed onlookers as she arrived to the Top Gun: Maverick premiere in Leicester Square in a very unique red carpet get-up. The 61-year-old Countdown Whizz, who partially resides in Clifton, looked the part at last night's premiere (May 19) in a khaki green flight suit.

Eyes are always on Carol when she arrives at red carpet events, as she usually looks very glamorous in an evening gown. Despite not donning the usual red carpet attire, Carol still looked incredible as she paid homage to the original Top Gun film, which came out nearly four decades ago.

Carol's decision to wear the gorgeous khaki number was influenced by her own love of flying. From a young age, Carol wanted to become an RAF fighter pilot, but the fact that women were unable to join the RAF when she was old enough to join stopped her from following her dreams.

Despite not being able to join the RAF, Carol obtained her pilot's license back in 2013, and often shares her love for her plane, Mildred, with her social media followers. The star has traveled the world going to various air shows, from RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire to Miramar Air Show in California, the original home of Top Gun.

Last night, Carol teamed her khaki flying suit with a black patent belt, heeled boots and a matching clutch bag. Of course, no Top Gun-themed outfit would be complete without aviator sunglasses, which Carol attached to her suit's low neckline.

With her blonde hair styled in curls, Carol looked effortlessly cool as she beamed in the presence of press cameras and fans. Prior to the London premiere, Carol had not kept quiet about the big night, and shared her excitement with her social media followers.

The mum-of-two wore a specially designed tag with 'MATHERICK' stitched onto it, referring to her incredible maths skills. On Instagram, Carol wrote: "MATH-ERICK reporting for duty."

Ahead of last night's premiere, Carol shared snaps of her incredible outfit with her 220,000 Instagram followers. She said: "Trying my flying suit on a few days ago in London....I need a hair cut!!!

"Strictly speaking it should be a gown on the red carpet tonight but this is my little homage to the original Top Gun and to my passion for aviation. #pilot Been going through some pics flying my lovely plane Mildred...she's a twin engine Diamond DA42-VI and a beauty and have flown her all over Europe and up to Iceland in my survival kit...that was interesting and exciting.

"Some other pics with genius fighter pilots...supersonic in a Typhoon, thrown around in Hawk in the Red Arrows, with Ben Murphy in his Red Bull racer.....on the ramp of a Chinook over London. What a lucky woman I've been in that way."

Carol added: "You know the ONLY thing I ever wanted to be growing up and probably since....is a fighter pilot. I was born 20 years too early, they didn't take women pilots in the military in my day.

"But I got my licences in my 50s which closed a happy circle. So tonight isn't just a red carpet or a movie for me. It's much more meaningful I guess.

"I feel the need....the need....to say thank you."
