Top 9 equity mutual funds deliver over 30% return on SIP investments in 1 year. Do you own any?

A total of nine equity mutual funds delivered over 30% returns on SIP investments in the last year, according to an analysis by ETMutualFunds. The analysis covered nearly 293 funds during the period.

Of the 293 funds, 182 delivered positive returns, while 83 generated double-digit returns. Around 111 funds gave negative returns on SIP investments during the same period.

Among the top nine funds, eight belonged to the small-cap category, while one was a focused fund. The top two funds delivered nearly 40% returns on SIP investments.

Bank of India Small Cap Fund, the topper in the list, delivered a return of 45.95% on SIP investments in the last one year. A monthly SIP investment of Rs 10,000 in the fund would have been 1.46 lakh now. This was followed by TRUSTMF Small Cap Fund who gave 41.53% return in the same time period.

Motilal Oswal Focused Fund delivered a return of 38.30% in the last one year. A monthly SIP of Rs 10,000 in the fund would have been Rs 1.42 lakh now. Helios Small Cap Fund offered a SIP return of 38.17% followed by Motilal Oswal Small Cap Fund which offered a SIP return of 35% in the last one year.

ITI Small Cap Fund delivered a return of 34.78% on SIP investments in the said time period. A monthly investment of Rs 1 lakh in the fund would have been Rs 1.40 lakh now.

The next two funds in the list were from Motilal Oswal Mutual Fund. Motilal Oswal Small Cap Fund and Motilal Oswal Focused Fund delivered a return of 42.56% and 41.91% respectively in the said time period. A monthly SIP of Rs 10,000 in these funds would have been Rs 1.42 lakh and Rs 1.41 lakh respectively.

The last three funds were also small caps. Union Small Cap Fund and LIC MF Small Cap Fund gave a return of 33.24% and 32.44% respectively on SIP investments in the past one year. The last one in the list was JM Small Cap Fund which gave 31.29% in the last one year.

How other equity funds fared?

DSP Small Cap Fund delivered a return of 29.72% in the last one year. Quant Small Cap Fund delivered a return of 25.47% on SIP investments. SBI Small Cap Fund delivered a return of 17.36% in the past one year. Edelweiss Small Cap Fund offered a return of 14.61%.

Nippon India Growth Mid Cap Fund, the fund with the largest NAV, delivered a return of 7.14% on SIP investments.

Two flexi cap funds - Bajaj Finserv Flexi Cap Fund and ICICI Pru Flexi Cap Fund offered a return of 6.10% each in the last one year.

Baroda BNP Paribas Large & Mid Cap Fund was the last one to deliver positive returns. The fund delivered a return of 0.03%.

Negative performers

Franklin India Focused Equity Fund lost the most of around 14.25% on SIP investments. This was followed by Samco Large Cap Fund who gave 11.50% in the same time period.

Parag Parikh Flexi Cap Fund, the largest active fund and flexi cap fund based on assets managed, lost 5.31% on SIP investments. HDFC Multi Cap Fund lost 2.80% in the same time period.

SBI Flexicap Fund lost the lowest of around 1.78% on SIP investments in the said time period.

The analysis considered all equity funds, excluding sectoral and thematic funds. Regular and growth-oriented plans were considered, and SIP performance was calculated for the last one year.

The exercise was conducted to identify equity funds that delivered over 40% returns on SIP investments during the last one year. It is not a recommendation, and investment or redemption decisions should not be based on this analysis.

Investors should consider their risk appetite, investment horizon and financial goals before making any investment decision.
