A little umbrella and a cherry on top make it extra lovely jubbly...Del Boy’s favourite pina colada has been named the nation’s top cocktail.
The rum, coconut and pineapple tipple beat more sophisticated choices such as the martini, mojito and Aperol spritz to the top spot.
The creamy concoction had fallen out of favour since 1979 when Rupert Holmes’ hit Escape asked: “Do you like pina coladas?”
But now the answer is a resounding “yes!” as the retro tipple storms back up the charts in a poll of 1,500 adults.
Four in 10 drinkers prefer a cocktail over a pint, found the research by restaurant chain Fridays – with six in 10 seeing it as the more sophisticated drink.
But half admitted they chickened out of asking for a cocktail with a saucy name such as Sex on the Beach – in second place in the poll.
However, that isn’t a problem for the half of us with a shaker at home.
Brendan Quinn of Fridays said: “The nation appreciates a good cocktail.”
