Too much Meghan? Too much criticism

Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and the makeup artist Daniel Martin in With Love, Meghan.

Two dismissive articles on With Love, Meghan in Wednesday’s paper (Marina Hyde’s opinion column and Chitra Ramaswamy’s one-star review, with an accompanying “Five key takeways” piece by Jess Cartner-Morley), plus another by Stuart Heritage online, is excessive, lavish. A bit overmuch? It’s Netflix, not a Channel 4 documentary. How many people like to sit down and relax with a bright glossy magazine? That’s how I view it!

• Thank you, Marina, for watching this for us. It means I don’t have to.

• George Monbiot (The question no one dares ask: what if Britain has to defend itself from the US?, 27 February) is right to raise the issue of what happens if the US turns hostile, given our interdependence with it militarily. But what about the cybersphere? Windows, macOS, iOS and other operating systems are all American, too, as are most antivirus apps and many other apps we use daily.

• Jude McGowan got me thinking (Letters, 26 February) about the chances of me finding another quiet, kind, Guardian-reading, vegetarian, non-smoking, Labour-voting, book-reading, Chelsea-supporting, Bruce Springsteen-loving redhead. Very slim I guess, so I’ll hold mine closer and cherish her.

• I call the US president Trompé – which, in French, means deceived; mistaken; deluded; tricked. You need the é – just a plain e (trompe) means trunk, as in elephant.
