GURUGRAM: The ambitious pod taxi project to connect Delhi’s Dhaula Kuan with Manesar may be converted to a “trolley bus” or tram project instead, with the subject being discussed at length during the inauguration ceremony of the Gurugram-Sohna national highway on Tuesday.
While Gurugram MP Rao Inderjit Singh was the first to raise the issue, seeking a status update on the pod taxi project from Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari during his address, it was Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar who took the matter further and suggested changing this plan altogether. “The pod taxi is being considered from Dhaula Kuan to IMT Manesar. I have heard somewhere that pod taxis are not viable, people will board in low numbers, so there may be some problem because this is an expensive project,” said Khattar. “My suggestion is that, instead of pod taxis, e-buses be operated on wires. These hanging buses can take 50 or 60 passengers at a speed of 60 or 70kmp from Dhaula Kuan to Manesar,” he said.
