Tommy Sheridan heartbroken after mum dies in Cardonald flat fire

Politician Tommy Sheridan's mum has died in a house fire at her home in Cardonald.

The former Glasgow MSP revealed the heartbreaking news in a Tweet posted in the early hours of this morning.

He explained that Alice Sheridan passed away following the blaze at her flat yesterday, Sunday, March 12.

His message reads: "Our hearts are broken. Last night in circumstances still being investigated our wonderful mum Alice Sheridan died in a fire within her flat in Cardonald.

"She was everything to us. Our inspiration and muse. She fought against injustice all her life. Rest In Eternal Peace Mum."

Tributes to Alice have been flooding in with former SNP politician Alex Neil offering his condolences.

He tweeted: "This is dreadful news. It’s bad enough to lose your mum, it’s especially difficult when it’s so sudden but when it’s in these circumstances it’s devastating.

"No matter your or her age. Your mum is always your mum. Condolences from Isabell and me."

Former leader of Glasgow City Council, Frank McAveety said: "Such sad news Tommy. Losing your mum is the hardest to cope with.

"I am sure you will have great memories of what she did for you so celebrate her life well lived and the people she helped along the way."

Another person wrote: "So very sad Thomas. I was very fond of Alice She was such a source of kindness and encouragement in my life. RIP beautiful lady."

The former Glasgow socialist politician was last year declared bankrupt with a trustee appointed to take control of his finances.

He lost his dad, Tommy Snr, back in 2017. The 80-year-old died following heart disease.
