Tommy Fury slams Jake Paul's name change bet ahead of grudge fight

Tommy Fury has slammed Jake Paul after the YouTube star joked that he would have to change his surname to his girlfriend Molly Mae Hague's if he loses their upcoming fight.

The 8-0 boxer comes from the famous Fury family that includes world heavyweight champion Tyson and top contender Hughie among other great fighters. And his dad and brother have both claimed that he will have to stay in Saudi Arabia if he takes a loss in the Middle East, also claiming that he would no longer be a true Fury.

And Paul added to the furore by joking that he will need to change his name to 'Tommy Mae', a mocking reference to Hague's mononymous public profile. He tweeted earlier this week that " Tommy Fury is going to have to change his last name to Mae in 14 days."

But in an exclusive chat with Mirror Fighting, Tommy Fury clapped back, saying: "I just want to say, you're talking to a professional athlete here. All them bulls*** questions, all that s*** about changing your name; I'm here for a fight. There's no 'name changes', no nothing.

"All that YouTuber s*** and bets he's made in the past, they're all idiots, YouTubers, not serious fighters. I'm a serious fighter and I only do fighting. I don't do name changes, I don't do anything so that's that. I'm not interested in all of that, I'm here to eat, sleep, train repeat, get in there on February 26 and knock the guy out.

"Everything else doesn't matter to me, there's not one thing in this world that matters to me other than knocking Jake Paul out. I've been training for the past few months to do this and I'm happy it's all over. I just wish I could fight this weekend. I'm so ready to go, relaxed, calm and have nothing more to say. We're around the corner from the fight and everyone's going to be in for a great night as long as it lasts."

Fury insists that there isn't any legitimate bad blood between the pair, and that Paul's mind games haven't affected him as they head into the fight. And he even admits that he enjoys fighting the likes of Paul or his sparring partner Anthony Taylor, who make an active effort to promote the events and make them bigger spectacles.

"Jake Paul is 100 per cent a great salesman, PR man whatever you want to call him," Fury admitted. "It takes two to tango at the end of the day. This is a big event and it's not just a massive event because of Paul or because of me, it's because of both of us. It's been a great back-and-forth.

"I don't think the fight needs hyping at all because it's had two-and-a-half or three years of hype. I believe this is the biggest fight out there right now that everybody wants to see so I think we've done our job properly."
